In the Pleasure Groove: Love, Death, and Duran Duran

In the Pleasure Groove: Love, Death, and Duran Duran - John Taylor

*I won this book through Goodreads FirstReads Giveaways.*

The first Duran Duran song I remember hearing was 'New Moon on Monday' way back in 1983. I was nine years old, and my sister and I saw the video on a show called Friday Night Videos. I fell in love with the song and the band right then and there.

There's a moment in this book, where John mentions how often times fans would be in factions depending on which member was their favorite. I found this amusing, because my sister, our friends, and I sort of did this as well. While we all loved all of the guys, I was most partial to Simon, my sister to John, and our two friends to Nick and Roger.

And enough of my reminiscing. Sorry about that.

I found this book to be a compelling read. I enjoyed reading about young John Taylor as a child (he went by his first name of Nigel back then) and how his friendship with young Nick Bates (later Rhodes) laid the foundation for what was to become arguably one of the biggest bands of the 80's. The childhood parts were my favorite part, truth be told.

I loved hearing about how the albums and songs I love came to be, and I love that while this is a memoir, Mr. Taylor resists the urge to write a salacious tell-all. Yes, there were times when the five founding members were on the outs with each other, but he never once dishes any dirt on his band mates. You can tell this is a man who truly loves the other guys in the band and has made finally peace with himself.

I'm glad he appears to be in a good place now with his family, with his band mates, and with his fame
