Final Girls

Final Girls - Riley Sager

The front cover of this book has a quote from Stephen King that says, "If you liked Gone Girl, you'll like this." I have no idea if this is accurate as I've never read Gone Girl. That being said, I did enjoy this.

The story is focused around Quincy Carpenter, the sole survivor of a massacre at a remote cabin 10 years ago. Her, and two other survivors of two other mass killings have been dubbed by the press as the Final Girls.

Quincy has seemed to put the past behind her as much as she can. But then one of the Final Girls is found dead and the other shows up on her doorstep soon after.

The story is told alternating between first person from Quincy's perspective and third person in the form of flashbacks to the night Quincy and her friends were attacked.

The pacing is pretty good, and I thought I had it all figured out only to find that I was wrong.

I'll definitely look into other books by this author.

Reading progress update: I've read 65 out of 371 pages.

Innocent In Death (In Death, #24) - J.D. Robb

I've put off reading this one for awhile because of the whole Magdalena situation, but this fits the prompt for the space I'm on for Snakes & Ladders, so I decided to suck it up and get on with it. That way I can move on in the series, too.

Reading progress update: I've read 15%.

The Mystery of the Blue Train - Agatha Christie

Reading progress update: I've read 371 out of 371 pages.

Desperate and Deceptive: The Guinevere Jones Collection Volume 1 - Jayne Castle

Reading progress update: I've read 339 out of 339 pages.

Final Girls - Riley Sager
Pretty much exactly five days later, and I'm finally back! Power went out at about 8:30pm Sunday night and was restored at around 9:15pm Friday night!

I will reply to comments and things tomorrow. I will also update my reading. I was pretty productive this past week. I finished the two books I was currently reading. I also read a Christie, started another Christie and a JD Robb.

I missed you all!

Might not be any art posts for a bit.

Reblogged from Jennifer's Books:

Severe storms moved through here yesterday, and I have been without power since 8:30pm Sunday night. There was extensive damage done over a wide area of the state, and it could be a few days before power is restored.

I completed my book for space #3 and was able to move up the ladder to space #51 which is "Has a wild animal on the cover". I think I may just work on finishing one of the books I have ongoing and just roll a single die to move ahead. I haven't quite decided yet.

Death in Disguise

Death In Disguise - Caroline Graham

I feel there could have been about 100 pages cut out of this one and it would have been much better. Too much page time was spent with the inhabitants of the commune and not enough with Barnaby and the investigation.

The less said about Book!Sgt. Troy, the better, so I'm moving on.

The tv adaptation of this book isn't one of my favorite episodes, so it stands to reason that the book wouldn't fare much better. (The tv adaptation is better, in my opinion, though.)

That being said, I am rating this one three stars, because Ms. Graham is a very talented writer.

Also, a point in favor of the tv adaptation, the fate of a particular character was changed in the tv version, and for that I am grateful.
